Merrifield, VA--The Competitive Commonwealth Fund announced endorsements for Morgan Goodman, Francis Stevens, Sheila Bynum-Coleman, Natalie Short, & Katie Sponsler today. All are Democrats running for Delegate in Republican-held districts.

“We’re helping strong Democratic candidates in every corner of the Commonwealth run fundamentally strong campaigns to position for the wave that’s coming,” said CCF Board Chairman Charlie Jackson.

  • Goodman is running in district 55 against incumbent Republican Buddy Fowler.

  • Stevens is challenging incumbent Republican Lee Ware in district 65, in the Richmond suburbs.

  • Bynum-Coleman is running in HD62 against Republican incumbent  Riley Ingram. This is her second time running for Delegate.

  • Short is challenging incumbent Republican Scott Garrett in HD23. No Democrat has challenged Garrett since 2009.

  • Sponsler is challenging Republican House Speaker-presumptive Kirk Cox in HD66 and is the first Democrat to challenge Cox since 1995.

Along with endorsements, CCF has made contributions up to $3,000 to each of their campaigns to help pay back some of their initial expenses, including filing fees, access to the voter file and database software and, campaign materials so the candidates can run an effective campaign.

This batch makes 14 total endorsements from CCF with about $40,000 distributed across those campaigns.

The Competitive Commonwealth Fund is a Virginia Political Action Committee founded in October 2016 by Thomas Bowman and Morgan Jameson and was the first organization outside the traditional Virginia Democratic Party structure created to recruit and support Democratic candidates at all levels and regions of Virginia. A volunteer Board of Directors consisting of veteran Virginia campaign and political professionals governs the PAC and ensures practically 100% of contributions to the Fund go to Democratic candidates.
