The Competitive Commonwealth Fund Announces 2023 Endorsements

For Immediate Release:

MERRIFIELD, VA – The Competitive Commonwealth Fund (CCF), a Virginia PAC dedicated to recruiting and funding Democratic candidates running in traditional GOP stronghold districts, announced its endorsements for the 2023 cycle. They selected six Democrats vying to flip seats from red to blue in the Virginia House of Delegates in districts the Virginia Public Access Project has identified as “Strong Republican.” The endorsements are:

  1. Jeremy Rodden, HD 90

  2. Madelyn Rodriguez, HD 32

  3. Rachel Levy, HD 59

  4. Sara Ratcliffe, HD 62

  5. Stephanie R. Clark, HD 37

  6. Joshua Blakely, HD 50

“CCF understands that when we support Democratic candidates everywhere in Virginia, we will build a bench of talented candidates that will help us regain the Democratic majority in the House of Delegates,” said Competitive Commonwealth Fund Board Chair, Jess Brown. “It is exciting to have the opportunity to meet and support talented candidates who are working hard everyday organizing their communities and turning out thousands of Democrats to vote on Election Day who otherwise might have sat out this off year election. CCF acknowledges their hard work and we have their backs throughout this election cycle.”

The Competitive Commonwealth Fund mission is to support Democratic campaigns in areas that usually don’t receive enough resources to run effective campaigns. It is a Virginia Political Action Committee that was founded in October 2016 by Thomas Bowman and Morgan Jameson to recruit and support Democratic candidates for office at all levels and in all regions of Virginia.

“Democrats win when Democrats run,” Morgan Jameson said. “As we saw in 2017 and 2019, traditionally Republican seats can flip to Democratic seats if we run efficient and effective campaigns, and voters have a choice on Election Day.”

Virginia Democratic strategist Matt Rogers said, “Over the last few years, it’s become increasingly clear to me that by not helping candidates in these ‘Strong Republican’ districts, that it creates the false impression among local residents that they are the only Democrats around; that there’s no reason to organize and to build the bench in their area. This was the case even in Northern Virginia as recently as the last several years. You cannot win if you don’t try.”

CCF is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of veteran Virginia union organizers, campaign, and political professionals. More information about the Competitive Commonwealth Fund is available at https://www.competitivecommonwealthfund.com/
